Sixth Form

Ark Pioneer Sixth Form offers an inclusive and supportive environment alongside a rigorous academic education. We combine high expectations with excellent academic and pastoral support, helping students to achieve strong outcomes and progress to ambitious destinations. 

Sixth Form enrolment for the 2026-27 academic year opens at 9am on GCSE results day (Thursday 20th August). If you have been offered a place via our application process, please come into school or contact us via email (sixthform@arkpioneer.org) by 12pm on the 20th August to guarantee your place. We will be open the morning of 21st August to welcome any other applicants. Alternatively, please email sixthform@arkpioneer.org.

We still have places available for external students. If you applied after our formal deadline and have not received an offer, or would like to put in an application, please come to the school in person from 11am on Thursday 20th August. We will be open for enrolment until 3pm on the 20th and between 9am and 2pm on the 21st August.

All prospective students and their parents are warmly invited to our Sixth Form Open Evening for the academic year 2027-28 which will be held on Thursday 22nd October 2026  16:30 - 19:00. There is no need to book a space for this event.

We offer two key pathways at Ark Pioneer Sixth Form.

A Level Pathway

Our A Level pathway offers 18 subjects. Students typically study three or four A Levels and sit their final examinations at the end of Year 13. 

Ark Pioneer hosts the Barnet Education Arts Trust’s A Level music programme with students from across the Borough coming to study at Pioneer under the supervision of our Head of Music.

Professional Pathways

Our Professional Pathway consists of a BTEC Extended Diploma in either Applied Science or Business. Students study a single BTEC qualification, equivalent to three A Levels. Alongside their studies, students take part in a wide range of employer and university visits. These have included visits to employers such as Hilton and EY, as well as universities including the University of Reading, City St George’s and Bayes Business School. 

All students on our Professional Pathway complete the Ark Network’s Work Readiness programme alongside their BTEC studies. The programme develops the skills, confidence and professional behaviours students need to succeed in the workplace. Through workshops, employer engagement and practical activities, students develop skills including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, CV writing and interview technique, helping to prepare them for university, apprenticeships and employment. 

Students on both pathways receive exceptional support to progress to their chosen destinations. The majority of our students go on to university, while we also provide extensive support for students applying for apprenticeships. Increasing numbers of our students are successfully securing higher and degree apprenticeships.

At Ark Pioneer, our school vision is that when our pupils leave us they will have real options, be it going on to a course of their choice at university or starting out in their chosen career. At Ark Pioneer Sixth form, we support pupils to access the very best destinations through expert teaching and developing their leadership over years 12 and 13.

The Best Destinations: We offer access to the best destinations possible for every child, whether accessing our A Levels or Professional Pathways qualifications. We develop students’ skills in applications, entry testing, interviewing and securing places at top universities, paid degree

apprenticeships and desirable career opportunities. Our students benefit from targeted careers education, university visits and relevant, career-focused work experience.

Expert Teaching: We offer expert teaching and support in every subject discipline and across our applied courses, benefiting from Ark network support as well as Key Stage 5 exam board expertise. Pupils’ academic progress will be front and centre, supported by high expectations, ongoing diagnostic assessment and specific support for success in end of course examinations.

Developing Leaders: Our personal development programme is tailored to ensuring every individual thrives, developing leadership skills and the professional competencies needed to be successful. Sixth form pupils are given opportunities to lead events, societies and to support younger pupils in the school. Our Pioneer Diploma develops sought after qualities and facilitates meaningful experiences for every student. The Diploma recognises pupils’ achievements in sport, the arts, community service, and commitment to university and career readiness. These are incredibly important parts of sixth form education that are not recognised in academic qualifications alone.
